Soprano Diane Atherton (Lola-Gallantry) debuts with The Forgotten Opera Company with Random Acts of Opera. Besides singing in every major concert hall in the British Isles… from the Royal Opera House, Barbican and The Royal Festival Hall in London to Aldeburgh, Glasgow’s Royal Concert Hall and Belfast’s purpose built Waterfront Hall, Miss Atherton has toured extensively throughout Europe, recorded for television and radio as well as many of the major record labels...her vocal

dexterity and flexibility illustrated by the wide range of repertoire she has sung.

Born and educated in Yorkshire, England, Diane moved to London to study as a postgraduate at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. At the Britten-Pears School she worked with Ileana Cotrubas, Suzanne Danco (with whom she studied in Italy) and Hughes Cuenod. Diane made her London debut at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream under Tamas Vasary with the Bournemouth Sinfonietta.

In opera, work includes the role of Gilda in Rigoletto, Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro at the Linbury Studio, Royal Opera House, London and in Ireland; Adele in Die Fledermaus in Brest, France. Diane premiered Josef Tal’s The Garden at the Queen Elizabeth Hall singing the role of Eve where the times offered “nothing but praise”. Other performances include Tytania at The Hampton Court Festival; Aminta in Il Re Pastore at Aldeburgh; Helena under the baton of Steuart Bedford at Aldeburgh; Ist priestess in Gluck’s Iphigènie en Tauride at the Royal Opera House and in Athens under the baton of Marc Minkowski; multiple performances of Musetta (Opera East) Pamina, (Travelling Opera, Opera East), Zerlina (British Youth Opera, Traveling Opera, Opera a La Carte) Leila and Susanna (Opera Holland Park and the Linbury Studio); Micaela and Frasquita for First Act Opera and Opera East and recently Despina in Ireland for Opera a la Carte.
